Plans and Questions

I had great plans to get the "In My Father's Garden" wall hanging pinned out and quilted the other day, but as I walked into the sewing room to make a start on it, for some reason a ufo that I'd completely forgotten about just popped into my head.... So as the thought was there, I decided to pull it out and see how much was left to do on it. Hmm 60 appliqued hearts, (did you know that Nancy just adores hearts?)....lol... Anyway back to the hearts, I had the blocks partially sashed so decided rather than fiddle with pins and quilting I'd much rather play with these heart blocks. So here they are all ready to be put together into a new block formation.

Today's plan is to get back into the sewing room and get these put together into blocks then into rows, that is of course unless something else doesn't call out to me.

At the rate I'm going, I can see I'm going to have a pile of finished tops that will need quilting all at once.

Yesterday afternoon I decided to sit down and do some more stitching on block #3 of Fantasy Garden, but Suki just wouldn't settle, so we headed outside instead, and this is what I spent the afternoon doing.

Four hours of trimming trees and cutting out vines, so today I plan on visiting my massage therapist for a very much needed massage. I did manage to get block #2 finished on Wednesday evening.

While we were at the craft fair last weekend, Hollie noticed a raggie wallet that she liked and asked if I could make her one. Not a problem, but I wanted to use a commercial pattern for this one. So here are the questions. Can you recommend a good wallet pattern? I think I'd also like to make her a bag to go with it, so is there a bag pattern that you've used or seen on someone else's blog that you think would be suitable for a very fussy 17 year old?

Last question, I'm planning on making Hollie a rag quilt for graduation and have seen a number of different brands of scissors especially designed for cutting through the flannel and batting. Is there a brand that you would recommend?

Thanks for taking the time to answer the questions and for stopping by. Have a great weekend and Happy Stitching.

Linda, no matter what project you worked on, you were making progress. That is a very good thing. The stitchery is really cute. Have you tried to google for free wallet patterns? I don't know any off hand, but will keep my eyes open for one.

Hi Linda, sorry it's taken me so long to get over here and say "hello". Every time I see your face by your comment I mean to do that, but with this senior memory I've forgotten by the time I get to the end of the comments. Sorry about that! *VBS*
It's a lovely blog, and I see you are doing all sorts of things. I have no answers for your 'raggy' questions, having never done any of that type. I'm sure the gals will know. Don't let the 'opps' get you down. Hugs, Finn

I don't have any answers to your questions, but from look of just the top heart block in the photo I think your heart quilt will be very pretty.

Hi Linda there is a couple of australian designers "Melly and Me" who are heading to Houston for the first time this year. They have a blog and on it you can see a lot/all of their patterns. They like the slightly off beat, modern fabrics that my teenager loves. there is a cute pattern called Wally and Wristy for wallet shown on the page about 2/3 entry down. They also make bags etc. For a more traditional shabby chic look one of the sisters also designs as Rosalie Quinlan Designs (also can get to samples off the blog site.)
hope it helps. Christie http://mellyandme.typepad.com/

Gosh, I have never tried a rag quilt . . . someday - maybe. I can't be any help on which is best to buy.

That's a gorgeous little stitchery block.
I think Sweet P made a wallet recently from the Lazy Girl designs as I remember admiring it on her blog.
The only thing I know about those rag quilts is that you make a BIG mess when you have to give them a hair cut.

Hi, when i talked about making my raggy, the girls commented that I needed scissors that were spring loaded, I spotted a $3 pair in the LQS and they did my 2 perfectly fine with little or no ill effects on my hands.
The girls all said that you can almost wreck your hands with the normal little thread cutters many try to use.
Another big suggestion was the laundromat to wash it or keep stopping the machine and cleaning out the lint catcher. I did that 4 times and it was full of threads each time. Do you need a bit of vintage chenille in it, yell out if you want, i have about 4 colours and it wouldn't be hard to pop 1/4 metre or whatever in the mail, tracey

Any progress is a good day. Doesn't matter which project you are working on, it's all good.

Love the little stitchery.
