Question Time

I feel a little like Darlene with my list of questions, but who better to ask than the community of quilting friends here in blogging.
1. Can you recommend an online store where I can find and purchase a good range of homespun plaids?
2. I'm looking for good quality tea towels (kitchen towels) that I can either embroider or applique. I'm not wanting that waffle weave, but don't mind a check or a stripe, and I'm happy to shop online....lol...
3. Last question. I mentioned in my 2008 Goal post that I wanted to make a picnic tote and picnic quilt for Jenna. After thinking about it I thought it might be a good idea to apply something to the back of the quilt that would keep it waterproof. Any suggestions?

Happy Stitching and thanks so much for taking the time to help me out.

www.homesteadhearth.com has quite a few homespuns in their store, not sure what to look for under their catalog. Are you looking for flannel? brushed cottons? I may have some....

I think I have made the changes you suggested now.

What about a vinyl felt-backed tablecloth to back the picnic quilt? Would certainly be easy enough to sew thru.

Good luck, and as always...WE WANT PICTURES!

I found nice homespuns at memesquilts. I don't know about tea towels, but others say memesquilts has them also. Good luck.

Hey Linda I recently purchased some tea towels from American Chair Store http://www.americanchairstore.com/floursacktowels.html

I bought the Deluxe Flour Sack 30 x 30 and I really like them. They are hemmed on all four sides and are heavier than anything I can purchase. The weave is tighter than anything I have purchased before too. They were having a good sale on them (go to the bottom of the page) 21 towels for $32. That would be 3 sets if you make DOW. Hope this helps ya!

Along with the other suggestions - try This n That fabrics - they carry some nice homespuns.

I still have a heap of the yellow check I made all those tea towels out of 6 weeks or so ago, I could send you some and you could make some that way.. Tracey

Country Threads in Iowa has loads of homespuns. I found them to be of good quality. I noticed that the Quilter's Coop had an order come in with the flat weave towels. Nice of Tracey to offer up some of her fabric. I used the waffle type to make a towel. It was okay to sew appliqued fabrics on but not sure I would use it for hand stitching. The quilters here have given some shops that I will check out, too. I love the friendly comments shared here!!

Scotch Guard spray keeps fabrics cleaner and helps repel moisture, but must be reapplied from time to time. A plastic sheet to lay under the quilt may be helpful. You should be able to purchase flannel backed vinyl table clothe fabric by the yard at a fabric shop. If they laid the quilt on top of that, the flannel should prevent slipping. Buttons or ties could be used to keep it together...I dunno?
