Aussie Magazines, Pincushion Update, Challenge

Ok so I need some advice, you Aussie girls may be able to answer this one for me. I've subscribed to Country Threads for the past year and my subscription has just run out. I want a new subscription and I can't decide between Country Threads and Homespun. I must admit I was a little disappointed with the Country Threads this past year, not as many smaller items. So my question is which one do you think is better, remembering that I just adore stitcheries/embroidery.
I decided to add another quilt to my 5 finishes challenge, the Four Season's Summer quilt, so that's three on the list.
Pincushion Update
Only 17 more days until your pincushions are due to be sent to your partners, of course you can mail sooner. I've received some gorgeous photo's of finishes already. Please remember to email me a photo of your finished pincushion and to let me know when you have it posted. This way I can add your photo to the album I've created, and I can let your partner know to expect a parcel. Once you've received your pincushion, please email me to let me know. This way I can keep track of who has and hasn't received their parcels. Hope you're all having fun creating.

Happy Stitching.

Sometimes one is better and the next time its the other one...So I´m no help at all!! Good luck!!! :0)
Exciting about the pincushions!!

I too have a subscription to Country Threads and usually end up buying Homespun as well, although you can usually pick up cheaper back issues at the craft shows. It is true that sometimes one is better than the other. So I am not helpful either. It is hard to know - you obviously have to factor in the price of the magazines travelling overseas. Good luck choosing!

Homespun is better, but I find them both disappointing now that they went monthly. I dont think I have looked at them more than once when they get here.
I used to get Handmade, Patchwork & Stitching and Aust Country Craft, as well as Homespun, Quilters Companion and Country Threads... but now I just get the last 3 PLUS Aus Patchwork & Quilting..

I figure if I make one thing out of each one, I have saved $'s... but lately, I haven't made anything out of any of them... except the patchwork & quilting..

Having said that, the latest homespun come out and the next one has some bronny hayes patterns in it I believe...

My vote goes to Homespun. It usually doesn't fail to provide quality, desirable projects.

As one expat Aus. to another, my personal fave is Australian Home Companion. I am about to order my new subscription, delivered to my brother & SIL's home in Tamworth - I pick them up when I go to visit Dad.

I'm not Aussie, but I love the Country Threads Stitchery issue. It's the only issue I buy. The newest is by far my favorite.

I need to get my pincushion done this coming week. We leave for Canada for two weeks next Sunday.

My favourite is Country Threads but I have to admit neigher mag has been living up to it's reputation lately. The Country Threads stitchery specials are a always nice.

I have to agree with some of the other responses...I have subscribed to both mags for a couple of years and I don't think the quality is the same as it used to be....or it could be that some of the projects don't appeal to me...but not to say that others may love them....personal taste!! I will continue to subscribe to both but don't really have a favourite......that has been a huge help .... NOT .....I also like the Quilters Companion mag but don't subscribe...just buy issues that interest me....

Hi Linda..on the debate of the aussie mags,I am a Homespun girl through & through, I have every issue since no: 1,I do agree with the others though since they have all gone monthly I don't think they can keep up the demand,I don't buy patchwork & Quilting anymore for that reason but my 2nd choice is Quilters Companion. Thanks for popping into my blog & I will sure to visit you again.
cheers

Hey Linda! I have a Homespun sub and from time to time, if there's something in it that catches my eye, I'll grab an issue of Crountry Threads and/or Handmade (had subs for both of these last year that I let lapse for similar reasons), mostly CT. I agree to a certain extent with everyone's comments about the quality, but for me it's more about variety missing. HS used to feature more unknown or lesser known designers, but seems to have gone the way of many patchwork shops - only interested in projects by very well known designers. Not sure if that's helped!! I've joined Peg's challenge to, so must away to stitch!!! Bear Hugs! KRIS (Tag Along Teddies)

I am looking forward to see the slide show you plan to set up for us to see all the pincushions that will be flying over the world the next weeks.

I love both magazines honestly. It would be hard to chose. I get them both auto shipped to me. Love them!!
Getting ready to mail out my pincushion. Gotta snap a photo.

Homespun's my favourite but I only subscribe to Country Threads. I used to subscribe to Homespun however the shops would get it before I did, sometimes I'd get it weeks later or I'd have to call them as it hadn't been sent at all. Got a bit frustrated with them plus I don't think you get the bonus goodies like dvd's, you have to send away for it and pay the postage.

Hi Linda, finally I've finished moving to our new house... I'll start making the pincushion right this week, thanks for reminding us :)

Hello Linda

I've let all my subscriptions go except for Homespun. Country Threads was definitely my favourite but it has had nothing exciting for quite some time. While I think Homespun is not quite as good now that it's monthly, the standard of designs on offer is much more diverse than the other magazines.

Hi Linda,
I don't subscribe to our mags, but I do love both and buy when I see what's in the Mag.
I think they are the loveliest for stitcheries and other projects, like bags etc.
Why not try Homespun this time as you had Country threads last time?
My 2 cents.

I do love them both but as I dh would say "you can have anything you want, just not everything" - How about you subscribe to Homespun and the next year Country Threads. Of course, as Murphy's law would have it, Homespun would be the pits and Country Threads...! lol I do love Mags from Oz. Have fun choosing! ;o)
