Where Do You ?

It seems that we all buy fabrics that make our heart sing, whether it's a newer line or perhaps not so new. It was interesting reading all your comments. Thank you for taking the time to respond to my question.
As I have a pile of quilt tops that need finishing and no photo's to show, I thought I'd pick your brains with another question today.
I'm not surrounded by loads of quality brick and mortar quilt stores. There are a number scattered throughout Oklahoma City and the surrounding areas, but nothing that is handy, add to that, that I still haven't gotten my drivers license. So I tend to do the majority of my fabric shopping online. Which is probably a good thing after reading some of yesterdays comments. I don't get pulled by beautiful fabric displays pulling at my heart strings or my purse strings.
I'm going to list a couple of online stores that I frequent, but I'd also love to know what your favorite store or stores are.
http://www.marshalldrygoods.com/ This is where I purchased my Dick and Jane fabric. I tend to buy my basics here. You can't beat $3.99 for 1st quality quilting fabrics.

http://www.zandsfabrics.com/ Always a fun place to shop and great customer service.

http://www.fabricsquareshop.com/shop/ Pre-cuts only here, no yardage.

http://nancyrinkdesigns.com/thread.html This is where I buy my Aurifil thread from, at only $7.95 a spool and $1.75 for shipping.

Thank you for taking the time to answer this question, you may just be adding to my online list of favorite stores to shop at.

Happy Stitching.
Linda

Hi Linda, I'm the first one but my answer maybe is not so interesting for yo because I'm from Europe! Me and a friend of me have ordered a few times in the states at "the quilted castle", a nice service, good prices (here in Europe patchwork fabrics are realy expensive!) but we've to pay customers fee!
Have a nice day! Hugs, Renata.

I moved away from a quilting mecca (Salt Lake City) and haven't found a quilt store that I am thrilled about yet. I have resorted to online buying. I love fatquartershop.com and pink chalk fabrics and fabrichound.com
It's hard to see the true colors online though.

I do most of my fabric shopping at this shop in Tulsa
http://www.ecottonpatch.com/
I am glad to see your listings as I have not heard of some of those before.

I haven't commented in quite a while but I am reading and still loving all of your beautiful creations.

I especially love that giraffe!

I am a primitive lover, so it is Primitive Gatherings for me. But there is another shop called the Fat Quarter Shop out of Texas and they have great customer service and a nice selection. Sorry I don't have the addresses handy, but you can google them and they will come up for you.

I love this quilt shop called "The Stitching Post". They have a wonderful store front, but they have almost as much in their online store, http://www.stitchingpostquilts.com/
You will definitely get customer service with these gals.

I actually get to shop at Marshals in Batesville as I have a daughter in that area. They have a HUGE building just full of eye candy and many bargins. I just love this place on-line or in person.

I used to buy from a wide variety of online fabric stores, Linda. Now I've whittled it down to 2 that have great service and reasonable shipping - fatquartershop.com and pinkchalkfabrics.com
I still buy smaller items like books, notions, threads, wool, etc from a wide variety of online shops, but these two for fabrics are my favorites!
Cheers!

I have lots of brick and mortar quilt shops to chose from fairly close but I tend to shop more on-line because the shops don't tend to carry the new fabrics or fabrics I like. So I love fabricshack.com, equilter.com, fatquartershop.com

I hope Ric falls down the rabbit hole

Thanks for the info. I have a few quilt store nearby, but rarely go inside, as the fabric usually is so expensive. We have a Hobby Lobby here that I tend to pick up most of my fabrics from. About Ric... my mom had a Chinese author who commented on all her posts. :o)

I have to buy online for most of my fabric but I do have one or two stores I support. Unfortunately, It's still cheaper to buy online and post to Australia. Plus I get the fabrics the LQS doesn't stock.

I think fabricdepot.com has a good price on fabric and good customer service. I go to their store once a year as I am in Portland,Oregon on business. I love Hancocks of Paducah's online store also. They have good customer service and good prices. Hope you are having a wonderful day! Karen

As a rule I don't buy online - at least not til I find employment, lol. www.cottoncharm.com I would love to shop at, and I have bought from Big Horn Quilts online. I'd love to check out Marshall Dry Goods, oh my! Thanks for the link!

Hey Linda, If you've never checked out www.maryjos.com then please do. This lady opened a shop when she was 18 yrs. old and has been in business ever since. She's in her shop daily and I've gone there since I was 10yrs. old(now 60)She has lots of out of state folks stop by and they are amazed. Huge store.

Hi Linda!

I am fortunate enough to live close to several patchwork and quilting stores, so I buy my fabrics from them. It's good to shop "in the flesh" when you want to match items and don't have to worry about the techinical interpretation of colours on the internet - as different monitors vary.

But having said that I can see many advantages in shopping online - you can shop for fabric ranges that may be difficult to find locally - and of course, like you say, there's no temptation for other goodies that blow the budget!

My favourite online store isn't one for fabrics, but it is a mixed media and doll enthusiast extravaganza - called www.joggles.com

Enjoy your week!

I start by going to Quiltshops.com and doing a search for fabric that I might have in mind. Then I click on each shop's thumbnail pictures to see who has the most of the line I am looking for and the best price. Whittles doesn't have a lot of selection but does have good prices. And Z&S, is a good one.

I'm one of the fortunate ones that has a great LQS ... but I must admit that I do sometimes buy online too. I've bought with Hancocks of Paducah and also Fabric Shack before and they are terrific to deal with. I've also bought from quiltersbiz.com and they are wonderful as well, and they also have some great specials every now and then too.
Have fun ...
Hugs,
Joy :o)

I purchase from both GB and USA. My favourite GB store ships within 24 hours. http://www.thetabbycat.com/
and I think everyone has heard of the US store I purchase from. http://www.fatquartershop.com/
There are a couple of real life shops here on the island, but both are small and have limited choice and both are a little off the beaten track but, I go to them when I can.

My favorite on-line shop is Fat Quarter Shop as many others have said. Kimberly has a great selection of fabric and awesome customer service. I haven't had to buy thread in a long time as I stocked up on Connecting Threads Essential threads quite a while ago and still have a stock left. You didn't ask about embroidery floss, but I buy mine from Retta Carol Creations through E-Bay. I use Finca Presencia thread and she sells a combo of floss and perle cotton.

Oooh Linda, you are a bad girl to give us those fantastic fabric links! I'm not much of an on-line shopper, but I'm sad to say, I'm learning LOL. The only online place I know very well is the fabric shack because I'm lucky enough to be able to go there once in a while. Thanks for the links!

Thanks for the links to the fabric sites, I will be going to all of them for some purchases. You would think in a big city like Philadelphia there would be quilt shops, NO. I have to go online or take the train to New Jersey to a quilt shop which I do once a month now, but they are expensive.
again thanks

Hi Linda,

great question...and interesting answers to read...
I'm from Germany and I buy most of my fabrics online in the US (but sometimes in Germany, too...).

Some of my favourite sites are already mentioned (first and foremost the FQS - Kimberly and her team offer just the best customer service!), but I can also highly recommend:
The Quilt Shoppe
Homespun Hearth
Fabric Buffet
Sew, Mama, Sew!
The Quilted Castle

It seems, I do shop too much...but there are many times I only "window shop", I might say!

Cheers, Julia

P.S.: I should add that I support my LQS, too...but they just don't carry the style I like...so I buy mostly notions from them...

Buying from Australia I have a number of favourites but
http://www.stitch-n-frame.net/
is a constant one, as is Fabric Depot,
and when they have free overseas shipping
Hancocks of Padukah are just the best.

Linda, thanks so much for the online store listing...I, too, have to shop mostly online because I'm at least an hour away from a good fabric shop. It does help stem my fabric buying habit, though. Has anybody mentioned fabric.com? They ship for free if your order is over $35.
