Sewing Space

I was having a bit of a chat with Stephanie this morning about the size (or lack of size) of my current sewing space. I mentioned that it wasn't big enough to swing a cat in there, which happens to be one of those common Aussie sayings. So I decided I'd take a photo of my space and let you decide if you think I could successfully swing a cat in this space.

Now if you're wondering where this little space is, you'd better put any liquid refreshments down. I'd hate you to shower your pc screen with tea or coffee. The only reason I warn you is that I told Jenna on the weekend where I was sewing and I thought she was going to injure herself from the reaction I got from her.

Can you guess where it is? No, well then, I'll tell you. I've moved from a bedroom, (which is now occupied by Hollie and sweet Tayla). This new space is off the main bedroom and holds the hot water tank and is next to the laundry room,
otherwise known as a closet.
Now you may understand why Jenna thought it was so hilarious!!

I'm thinking that this is the main reason why I have no desire to sew, like I said at the beginning of the post, it's not big enough to swing a cat in there, let alone sit and stitch, but I haven't let it deter me too much. I've moved into the living room on a few occasions to do a little creating. Hollie thought it absolutely necessary to have a tutu for Tayla, so a tutu it was.

Then she asked for hair bows that could be attached to soft headbands, so hair bows it was.
The last request was for a pair of frilly knickers for Tayla, otherwise known as a diaper cover, but I think I need my beautiful model to show these off and she's sleeping at the moment. so that will have to wait for another time.

Until then,

Happy Stitching,

Linda.

P.S. For all you Bronwyn Hayes lovers, she now has a blog. You can find her here.

OMG, Tayla looks ADORABLE in that tutu...

I love your sewing space. No one to bother you (cause they won't fit!) and you are forced to be neat...

Funny thing...I was holding a beverage and I did put it down before continuing to read your post. But I like your sewing space! There is a window and it's all orderly and you can leave your machine set up. I think it is a very creative use of space! Bravo!

Love that tutu! Any chance for a tutu tutorial?

Oh dear! You'd certainly injure the poor cat. Well good thing you have Tayla to give you motivation to sew--who absolutely NEEDED a tutu!

Having a window probably helps with the claustrophobia! My Mom's sewing room was smaller, but she wasn't in there a lot. One benefit is being able to leave your sewing machine set up. I hope you can do something to make it a little more inspiring, though.

How fortunate for you to have a baby girl - a girly girl! - to play dress-up with! Such fun. As for your sewing space... no cat-swinging, please. He'd surely smack into your sewing machine. But on the bright side, you have that water heater to warm the space. You must be toasty in there!

Well, Miss Tayla is cute, cute, cute!!!

I had a similar sewing space when we lived overseas - it was an alcove type closet. Not very inviting but I didn't want or need guests. LOL Just relax and enjoy!

It looks like the sewing closet I had in Texas. Mine was smaller....and no water heater to warm the space. Oh, Tayla is a cutie. She looks adorable in the tutu.

Your little Tayla is just adorable!
My craft room is also in my laundry room. I think mine is a little bigger, but no window! I actually do most of my sewing at the kitchen table. Eating is highly over rated don't you think?

Cute little tutu and the baby in it is adorable also. I always have to have a space...at times its even been a corner in a hallway. Mine now is small but big enough.

The tutu is adorable as is Tayla. I like your sewing space. It may be small, but I bet you can still create in there.

What great projects you've sewn for Tayla...and wow...your sewing space is so neat and organized...althought I don't think there is room to swing a cat in there either!

I think I would take the baby over the sewing room. But I know how it feels, I used to have a little corner which was so frustrating. Maybe a quilted cover for the hot water heater, well, maybe not. Of course a tiny tutu, just perfect for a little princess.

Ohh Linda..it would have to be an awfully small puddy tat...and that would be mean. We all dream of a lovely huge gorgeous space don't we? But we live with less. Tayla is worth giving up the space for...and the tutu and hair bows! Really neat. Would love to make the bows! Rainbow smiles.. Gloria

When I saw that water heater I knew it had to be close to the laudry room. I feel your pain.
I have seen on Martha Stewart where she created a sewing space in a closet but that would mean you would have to find a place for all those clothes. lol Hopefully you will be able to figure out something.

Awwww, what a sweet picture of little Tayla! You're lucky you get anything done -- if I had that adorable baby hanging around there would be no sewing at all!!!

Oh man, no you can't swing a cat in there! It must be hard to connect with your sewing muse right smack-dab next to the water heater!

Your little one is SO CUTE! Love the tutu. I think my little Kate might have to have one of her own.

You may not have room to swing a cat, but you are doing very nicely, thank you! Gorgeous little one!

wished I had a closet that big...........man I could hide some junk woops i mean stuff then.........

your doing well..........the tutu is so cute..........man she is growing fast.......

Nope, no swinging cats in there! It IS tiny. And if you're used to spreading out, I understand why it would cramp your style.
But look what you made for that darling adorable sweet baby! Love the tutu and hair bows. She's going to be one extremely well-dressed child!

LOL, gosh Linda I can understand the need to put liquids down. I can understand your lack of sewing though, I would be scared of missing something in a wee space like that. I'm far to nosey.

Look at that gorgeous wee poppet in her tutu, she is so beautiful. I bet you are all so proud of her and deservedly so.

I am so jealous, Tayla looks adorable in that tutu. Sewing for little girls is so much more fun than boys, and I do miss it. I will soon be in your position, giving up sewing space for the little one, after only just getting the space. But we do anything for our children don't we?
Happy Holidays to you.

That is just about the size of my sewing space too. I put the sewing machine on the kitchen table...wouldn't it be a dream to have a sewing/quilting studio?

Love those bows. Girl I think you could create beautiful things no matter where you go.

God bless.
