Mis-Calculated

I said yesterday that I needed around 44 of these blocks.
Obviously my math skills are more than rusty. I re-calculated and the number is over 100. Only another 20 to make and they'll be ready to layout and start sewing the rows together.
When I started these blocks I was trimming them to size as I had each 1/2 triangle block made. I've decided it's easier to trim after the block is completed. When do you trim your blocks, once you've completed you 1/2 triangles, or once you have you block made up?

Happy Stitching.
Linda

I usually do them as 1/2 square triangles. that way I know ahead of time if one or two are not quite up to snuff, seems like there's always one or two. cyndi

Boy am I impressed, Linda! This is going to be lovely.
I have to trim at the end of the block - otherwise something will end up too small. I don't know why or how, but it happens all the time.

Hang in there...I know it's going to be beautiful! I'm looking forward to seeing how it all comes together.

I trim as I go along, first of all when I sew one the wrong way (2 wrong sides together) or if they don't match I fix it right away, and it seems like less time spent with Mr Seam Ripper. When you I do them all at once it seems like it takes forever.

Love pinwheels, but I never have made so many at one time. I always trim mine after I make the block. It's going to be a great quilt.

I trim my HST after making them. Boring, tedious, but more accurate for me. Once the block is together I measure to make sure it's square...trimming if need be.

Wow! that is a lot of pinwheels!
For this kind of pinwheel block I like to true up after the block is made. In blocks where there are loads of 1/2 square triangles, I'll square up each unit before the entire block is assembled.

Can't wait to see your finished project!

I usually cut them a tad bigger, then sew and then trim. I would rather do that instead of worrying about sewing such a accurate seam.

It depends but I usually trim at the end of the block. Your pinwheels are going to be wonderful

Hi Linda!! I see you're as industrious as ever!!! :-) As for trimming blocks, I'm yet to make a pieced one! LOL...

Thank you for your lovely comments about my wedding sweetheart! I'm still catching up, I'm so out of it at the moment! My family returned to England last week and I've just about finished the washing! LOL...

Lots of love, I hope all is well in your world, and Holly's (Hollie?) too...
