Can cause expensive results and a whole lot of inconvenience.
I've always serviced my own sewing machines, taking the bottom part of the machine off to clean out all the lint and fluff that builds up underneath the bobbin case and give it a good oil.
I did this, this afternoon before completing the pinwheel blocks. The bobbin winder decided it wasn't going to work. So while I was at it, I had this bright idea that I could fix it. Hmm not such a bright idea after all. While attempting to remove the top part of the machine a tiny piece fell down into the inside of the machine. My machine is now at the doctors being repaired... Thankfully I have my little Gem to go on with. I couldn't imagine going through sewing machine withdrawals.
Happy Stitching.

Poor thing , at least you have a back up !
Here's a piece of first hand advice: when you clean your machine and absent-mindedly put a little screw on top of the feed dogs and knock it into the machine - DO NOT turn it upside down to shake it out. Other things will also come out and then you get to visit your sewing machine hospital.
oops!
Luckily you have back-up... I hope you machine returns must better :)
Hugs, Sharon
Thank goodness for backups, hope it will be home soon.
Oh, you brave one! I would never try a repair myself. I did knock a pin by accident into the feed dogs and down into my Gem. I took her in while taking a class about 100 miles away. The man griped me out and said he didn't have time to look at it. When in all reality he was the one that told me to bring her in. To make a long story short when I got home and carried her into my sewing room...the pin was sticking out the bottom of the case. I really laughed because it saved me a repair bill. Hope you get your machine back soon. Blessings, Karen
Yikes! Good thing you have another - hope it gets fixed quickly!
Thank goodness you have another machine....I would be in real trouble as the shop is 60 miles away from me. Hope you get a lot of blocks finished up this weekend. Not very good weather here for doing anything but sewing.
Oops! Hope it's back soon!
Life like that (chuckle) at least you had a replacement....hope it is not to long before the doctor and repair and return (LOL)
Oh dear....I hope its not going to be too long for you to be with out it :)
Since I live on an island with no bridges to the mainland, stores, mail, nothing!,I'm always trying to do preventative maintenance by cleaning away lint, etc. HOWEVER... I don't know if I'd be brave enough to try my own repairs! Good for you!
Glad I've found your blog!
