Janome Lovers

I'm thinking about upgrading my Janome 4800 to a 6600.
The thought of that extra room under the throat and the ability to machine quilt a little better has me seriously thinking about it.
I know many of you own this machine, so if you could take the time to tell me about the features that you love and those you don't, I'd be very appreciative.

Thanks in advance,
Happy Stitching.
Linda

Having never owned a Janome until my 6600 I'm not sure what features are "new." I love the wider bed and extra light. I love the visible bobbin, scissors feature, dual feed, needle down. I also purchased the bobbin casing just for free motion machine quilting. It never need adjusting!

I've had my 6600 for almost 5 years and am still quite smitten with it. :-) Stephanie mentioned all the features I love about it. I feel sure you'd love it, too.

If you can afford it, move up from the 6600 to the 7700.
Two drawbacks to the 6600, it's been out for a number of years and sewing machine companies only support computer/electronic machines for so long. I'd still be using my 9000, but I can't get parts for it anymore. Granted, it was 20 years old, but I'd have been happy taking that machine to the grave with me.

All that said, the 6600 is a marvelous machine. As you say, a wider harp space for machine quilting and probably the only machine on the market that has a steel body rather than plastic. It runs like a dream.
Drawback, no free arm which is a bit of a pain even when just doing mending, let alone human or doll clothes construction.

It is really heavy so not a good candidate for going to classes, if you do that a lot you might consider on the the Gems.

Janome makes great sewing machines. Probably so do other lines :) Take YOUR fabric bits to the store and spend a couple of hours sewing the way you sew with what you sew...if that makes sense.

All the best, from a Janome lover. I don't have a room full of machines, I just have the best machine on the market.

I've owned the 6600 since July 2006 and bought a second one in January 2010 to keep at my quilting friend's house so I didn't need to transport my machine back and forth. As someone else mentioned, it's heavy!

But it's a great machine and I would highly recommend it! Great value for the cost for sure. I wasn't even tempted by the 7700 as the extra features weren't something I needed, particularly for the drastic increase in cost over the 6600.

Also, I have never met a Janome 6600 owner that didn't love their machine, so I think that says alot!

I don't have the Janome 6600 but several of my friends have the machine and they love it. Sewing with them I'm always wishing I had a larger bed on mine and so tempted to get one.

If you're planning on getting this machine I can't recommend it highly enough. I've had mine for three years now and could not live without it - sshhhh don't tell my husband I said that!!!

It is a sturdy machine and relatively quiet, I use it all the time and I'm still finding features I love, I especially love quilting free-motion with it, the extra throat space is wonderful also with the extra quilting extension just so easy to manipulate under it.

I've used most features from ordinary piecing, to the button-hole features, everything is a dream and so easy to adjust tension, stitch width and length, I also use the blanket stitch applique which is fabulous. This machine will be exceedingly hard to replace. Do it Linda!!!!
Good luck.

I've had mine for a little over a year after previously using a MC 400 for over 13 years with never a problem! I love my new Janome for all the reasons everyone has mentioned and more!

I have to agree with everything that Sharyn Mallow Woerz had to say about the 7700. If you are looking at the wider bed, I do believe the 7700 has a larger bed than the 6600. It also has a feeding system that makes piecing a dream. I work at a quilt store that sells Janome and we have sold the 7700 alot. So far, no one has brought one back!!

I love mine but things to know - no base drop (I can't think of the term for that!) to help with things like inserting a sleeve in a jacket...also its HEAVY so its best not to move it alot.
Love the throat depth and the walking feet it has available (additional $$ of course, lol). And the auto cut feature and the thread holders and the bobbin wind (you don't have to take off your thread to do it unless you need it to be that thread).
Oh - a bad thing for me - Superior's prewound bobbins don't fit this machine!!!!!

I love my 6600 and have had it over a year. I love the thread cutter and being able to just press a button on and off to sew. No foot to press is great since it would slide away from me. I would buy!
